Daily DoGooder: A Small Act Trailer

A Small Act Trailer | 1:38

This inspiring documentary beautifully shows the ripple effect that a small good deed can have. Chris Mburu was sponsored as a young boy, allowing him to rise out of poverty and reach his full potential as a Harvard Law School graduate and prominent U.N. activist. In appreciation for what he had been given, he created a scholarship fund for Kenyan children, named for his benefactor, the Hilde Back Education Fund. The touching story of their meeting is a tribute to the far-reaching impact that child sponsorship programs can potentially have on the sponsor, the child and their communities.

Your impact, and rewards, can be great in sponsoring an impoverished child through World Vision.  One-time donations are accepted to the Hilde Back Education Fund which provides scholarships for Kenyan children.

Beautiful trailer! How do we see the movie?

“How can you save the world? Where will you start? Sometimes it’s just as good to help one child.”

That’s a beautiful and important sentiment. The only thing I would change about it would be the word “sometimes.” There is no “world” for you to save; there are only people. You can’t help everyone, but you CAN change one person’s life forever. It’s important to focus on how amazing that accomplishment is. Mother Teresa said “If I look at the many, I will not act. If I look at the one, I will.” Peter Singer, in his book The Life You Can Save, focuses on the same idea (http://www.amazon.com/Life-You-Can-Save-Poverty/dp/1400067103).

I try to focus my company, 4sight Sunglasses, on the individual. For every pair of 4sight Sunglasses we sell, we give a new pair of corrective glasses to a person in need. About 1.3 billion people can’t see because they don’t have glasses. That number is literally incomprehensible. And, even worse, it’s intimidating and immobilizing. So by focusing on the direct link between the customer and the recipient of eye-care, I hope 4sight can be a catalyst for converting good intentions into action.
