Meet the See3ples: Elyse Kort, Project Director
Elyse Kort is Project Director at See3, where she will lead the strategy, design and implementation of a new major initiative. Originally hailing from the Queen City (Cincinnati, OH), Elyse talks to us about decades of volunteering, her favorite podcasts, and why there’s always room to be a fearless do-gooder.
Tell us a bit about your background and what your role is at See3.
I studied Communications and Marketing at American University in Washington D.C. Following graduation, I began dabbling in social media, and eventually propelled my hobby into doing digital work for nonprofits and private sector companies.
When I'm not at the office, you can find me playing with my puppy (Wrigley), cheering for the Washington Nationals and Cincinnati Bengals, or cooking/trying new restaurants with my husband. In my spare time, I also teach Sunday school and volunteer with Share Our Strength.
What nonprofit or social cause are you most passionate about?
For more than 10 years, I have volunteered with organizations that help combat hunger — specifically childhood hunger, since close to 50 million people in the U.S. are food insecure.
What do you read to stay up to date on digital media trends?
I am a slave to my Feedly (RIP Google Reader), and I am always seeking out great content to add to my list. My favorite new additions are HBR and TED. I also love to listen to podcasts, which is a great way to learn on the go. If you aren't already listening to StartUp and Reply All, I would recommend downloading them today.
If you could share one piece of advice with nonprofits and social causes, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to take risks. Things may not always go exactly as planned, but take your learnings and apply them to your next project or experiment. There’s always room to be fearless.
